EFL Cup: Citizens sent out by Saints as forest edge Wolves to reach semis

Goals from Sekou Mara and Moussa Djenepo was all Southampton needed to send Manchester City out of the EFL Cup.

A relatively understrength starting line up wouldn’t help the Pep Guardiola’s side and despite the introduction of new legs , the citizens weren’t going to have it all smile in the game.

Manchester city failed to have a shot on target as they lost for the fourth time in 28 matches this season, and the first time since the World Cup break.

At the other end, the battle between Nottingham Forest and Wolveshampton Wanderers was eventually settled via spot kicks after playing out a 1-1 draw at the regulation time. Forest got the best of the game after winning 4-3 on penalties.

Southampton will now face Newcastle United in the semis while Nottingham forest will also have a date with Manchester United.
