EFCC to appeal acquittal of ex-Ekiti gov Fayose in N6.9bn money laundering case

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced its intention to appeal the recent acquittal of Ayo Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti State, by the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The Informant247 reports that court ruled in favor of Fayose on Wednesday, dismissing the allegations related to a N6.9 billion money laundering scheme.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale commented on the decision, stating that the agency is currently reviewing the judgment.

“The former governor was re-arraigned on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, alongside Spotless Investment Limited on an 11-count charge bordering on money laundering and stealing to the tune of N6.9 billion,” he noted.

Oyewale emphasized the EFCC’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law, confirming that the agency has instructed its legal team to file an appeal against the court’s ruling.
