EFCC arrests two Chinese nationals, six Nigerians for Illegal mining operations in Ogun

In a successful operation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, said its operatives have arrested two Chinese nationals and six Nigerians in connection with illegal mining activities in the Ogere area of Ogun State.

The artest was made after a credible intelligence and comprehensive surveillance conducted by the agency.

The detained individuals are identified as Zhang Hang Lin, Gao Pei Hai, Matthew Mathias, Oluwaseun Amoo, Wasiu Ademola Alao, Ajibola Nurudeen, Ibrahim Yinusa, and Saidu Shuaibu.

At the time of their apprehension, EFCC operatives confiscated three trucks loaded with sacks believed to contain ground lithium powder, along with other unidentified solid minerals.

The operation also yielded a range of additional items, including a Toyota 4Runner SUV, mobile phones, samples of suspected low-grade lithium, ATM cards, passports, and various documents related to the ongoing investigation.

The EFCC has indicated that the suspects will face charges in court upon the completion of their investigation. This operation highlights the commission’s proactive approach to combating illegal mining, which poses significant threats to Nigeria’s economic landscape.

Previously, the EFCC had arraigned 13 Chinese nationals for cyber-related offenses, further demonstrating its commitment to ensuring the rule of law and preserving the integrity of the nation’s resources and socioeconomic stability.
