EFAF holds Maiden Summit on Drug Abuse, Cultism

An Ilorin based non governmental organization, Education For All Foundation on Thursday, 12th December, 2019 at the NUJ Hall, Ilorin organized its inaugural annual conference on drug abuse and cultism among kwara state students.

The programme was graced by notable personalities such as representative of Kwara First Lady Hajia Maryam Garba, Commandant, Kwara NDLEA, Ajayi Okesanmi, PPPRO Kwara State Command, Pastor JF Omotayo, Pharm. B.O Olanrewaju and other dignitaries worthy of acknowledgement.

The symposium kicked off with opening prayer by Mr. Sheriff Aleshinloye, CEO Marklesh Educational Services as chairman of the foundation, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Paranti highlighted steps taken by the organization to stem the tides of cultism and drug abuse among students in the state by conducting orientation exercises, handing out of stationery and awarding of scholarships to students of various secondary schools in the state.

The keynote speaker, Pharm. B.O Olanrewaju in her speech highlighted various effects of narcotic drugs to include: facial flushing, hallucination, irregularities of the rhythm of the heart, mental disorders, overstimulation and paralysis.

Representative of kwara’s First Lady and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Hajia Maryam Garba and other subsequent speakers also identified other vices cultism and drug abuse have posed to the society, thereby proffering lasting solutions to the growing incidence of the two antisocial activities.

United Community Secondary School among other schools present at the educative event won the panel session with a brilliant presentation.
