Education day: Eagles Foundation donates books to schools in Kwara, Nassarawa
Non-governmental organization, Eagles Foundation For Humanity, has donated books to secondary schools in Kwara and Nassarawa state to mark the United Nations International Day of Education.
During a visit to Oyun Local Government Secondary, Ilemona in Kwara state, Eagles Foundation delivered sensitization lecture to the students before giving out books by renowned authors in prose, science, history, self development and financial intelligence.
According to the organization’s Chairperson, Anifowose Titilope, She disclosed that their mission is to eradicate poverty of mind in youths “because readers are leaders and to prepare them for the highly competitive labour market”.
Anifowose who was represented by the state cordinator, Jimoh Arafat in Kwara, proposed a book club session in the school’s schedule which would hold every Thursdays and Fridays with four teachers acting as supervisors.
She further said they intend to organize competition between the beneficiary schools occasionally to evaluate the students skills.
On their part, the students showed enthusiasm about the book club, saying such program will encouraged them “to make reading a lifestyle”.
The principal of the school, Mr Odewale O.O expressed gratitude to the foundation for their selfless service, “promising to put in their capacities to further the development of the club so that it will keep growing and not experience retrogression”.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Organization also led a team to schools in Nassarawa state to distribute books and other instructions material.
During the exercise, she made it known that the Sokoto chapter of the organization will also launch her book club in February.
