Edo Senator defects to APC amid internal crisis in LP
Senator Neda Imasuen, who represents Edo South, has announced his defection from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement was made during a press conference in Benin City, where Imasuen explained that internal disputes within the LP prompted his decision to switch parties.
As the chair of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, Imasuen indicated that he will formally join the APC on June 12, coinciding with the celebration of his second anniversary in office. He described the defection as a “strategic” move rather than an act of “opportunism.”
During his tenure, Imasuen has overseen the resolution of over 20 public petitions, which he claims have positively impacted ordinary Nigerians. He highlighted several of his achievements, including the establishment of the Federal College of Education in Abudu and various constituency projects.
Moreover, the senator pointed out his initiatives in vocational training, agricultural support programs, scholarships, and rural health efforts aimed at assisting traditional birth attendants. His agricultural initiatives have significantly increased productivity in rubber, cocoa, and cashew farming in Edo South, receiving positive feedback from local farmers.
Imasuen also called for enhanced collaboration from local governments to sustain developmental efforts in his constituency. He reiterated his focus on youth empowerment, rural development, and ongoing support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
