Ecological projects: Kwara govt commends new culvert bridge in Patigi, cites benefits for local farmers

The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Community Development in Kwara State, Hon. Abdullah Abubakar Bata, has expressed his excitement during an inspection of ecological projects in Patigi Local Government Area.

The commissioner was pleased with the construction of dual box culverts in the Kparumagi area, a project aimed at addressing the challenges faced by local farmers in transporting their produce to the market.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Bata emphasized the importance of the new culvert bridge for farmers, who have struggled for years to move their goods due to the poor state of the roads.

He expressed gratitude to the residents for their patience and acknowledged the difficulties they endured while awaiting the project’s completion.

The commissioner encouraged other councils in Kwara State to follow Patigi’s example by executing projects that address both ecological challenges and promote economic growth in their communities.

Hon. Fatimah Asabe Jiya, Development Officer of Patigi Local Government, thanked the commissioner for his visit and noted the successful collaboration between her office and the council in identifying the most urgent needs for intervention.

She assured other communities awaiting similar projects that their needs would be addressed soon.

Mrs. Fabiyi Tosin, Director of Personnel Management for Patigi Local Government, added that the projects were carried out according to proper guidelines and that the benefiting communities had requested these interventions.

In his remarks, the village head of Esungi, Mallam Mohammed Chechegi, expressed his gratitude to the government for the new bridge.

He explained that the community had been isolated for decades after the previous bridge collapsed, making it difficult for farmers to transport their produce, especially during the rainy season.

Other projects inspected during the visit included the construction of a box culvert in Lade and the drainage system at Kara market, all within Patigi Local Government Area.
