Dominant D’Tigers trounce defending champions Tunisia with an 87-66 win in Afrobasket showdown

D’Tigers of Nigeria delivered a commanding performance against Tunisia, securing an 87-66 victory in their second game of the 2025 men’s Afrobasket held in Angola.

The match, played at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda on Friday, demonstrated Nigeria’s ability to maintain control throughout.

This win marks D’Tigers’ second consecutive success in the tournament, having previously defeated Madagascar. Right from the start, Nigeria set the tone, leading 29-16 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, D’Tigers continued their strong play, extending their lead to 48-33 by halftime. The trend persisted in the third quarter as Nigeria outscored Tunisia once again, closing the period with a score of 68-47.

Despite a slight slowdown in the fourth quarter and an attempt from Tunisia to mount a comeback, the gap remained too wide for any real threat. Josh Okogie, the Houston Rockets shooting guard, led the charge with a career-high 33 points, helping to secure the victory.

Looking ahead, D’Tigers will face Cameroon in their final group stage match on Sunday, aiming to build on their impressive momentum. Historically, Nigeria has claimed the men’s Afrobasket title once in 2015 while finishing as runners-up three times.
