Direct CBN to extend deadline for old Naira notes – Ohanaeze youths tell Buhari

The youth organ of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, OYC, has told the federal government to direct the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to change its stand on the deadline for the use of the old notes.

The organization told the federal government to direct the apex bank to extend the deadline for the use of the old Naira notes.

The Informant247 recalls that the CBN has announced January 31, 2023 as deadline on the acceptance of the old Naira notes across the federation.

OYC Zonal Co-ordinator, South-South Youth Wing, Chinedu Arthur-Ugwa, lamented that the new Naira notes were not in circulation as they were not provided by some commercial banks.

He said the scarcity of the new naira notes’ has caused much suffering for the people in the rural areas.

He advised the mother of all banks to “monitor commercial banks to ensure compliance with its regulations.”

The statement released by Chinedu Arthur-Ugwa reads in part: “Some filling stations demand extra charge from customers for use of their POS machines, while commercial POS operators charge an extra fee for withdrawal of the new notes. The situation is almost unbearable.”
