Detergent truck catches fire on Ogbomoso expressway due to tyre burst

The Kwara State Fire Service has disclosed that it has successfully prevented palpable havoc stem from an articulated truck transporting detergent with registration plates number ALK 625 XA.

It was gathered that the articulated truck was on Monday at about 1:30 pm gutted by fire, the incident triggered by a tyre burst while the vehicle was in motion.

It was further revealed that the continuous friction between the damaged tire and the hot tarred road generated excessive heat, igniting the tire. The fire quickly spread to the detergent products, which were packed in paper cartons.

A statement by the spokesperson of the State Fire Service Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said the Service while responding promptly responded to a distress call regarding a truck fire at Lasoju, along the Ogbomoso Expressway, swiftly commenced operations to contain the blaze and prevent further damage.

“Their efforts were commendable, as they worked tirelessly not only to extinguish the fire but also to salvage the goods being conveyed. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported,” the statement added.

The statement, however, quoted the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urging the general public to remain vigilant and safety-conscious at all times, especially when transporting flammable or heat-sensitive materials.
