Democracy Day: Presidency apologizes for erroneously awarding posthumous honors to Pa Fasoranti and Madunagu
The presidency has publicly tendered its apologies over grave mistakes made by including Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the Afenifere leader, and Dr. Edwin Madunagu, under the Posthumous Award category, the award reserved for dead persons.
It would be recalled that in the commemoration of this year’s Democracy Day, the president conferred honorary awards on people who have impacted positively in the struggle of the Democracy.
Notable amongst them included the Publisher of the Premium Times, Dapo Olorunyomi, who was conferred OON award
However, in a statement released on Thursday by the presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the presidency tendered its unreserved apology to the concerned persons.
The statement reads, “During his Democracy Day address at the joint session of the National Assembly earlier today, President Bola Tinubu announced a list of pro-democracy activists and national figures to be honoured for their significant contributions to the restoration of democratic governance in Nigeria.
“Under the Posthumous Award category, the names of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the Afenifere leader, and Dr. Edwin Madunagu were incorrectly included.
“Both distinguished individuals are very much alive and, therefore, should not have appeared in the posthumous category.
“We sincerely regret this oversight. We shall make the necessary corrections across all State House digital platforms.
“We appreciate your understanding.
