Decongestion: Kwara NCS seeks relocation of Oke-Kura Custodial Centre

The Kwara State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service has appealed to the state government to urgently consider relocating the Custodial Centre located at Oke-Kura in the state capital to a vast land that addresses decongestion and insecurity.

Oyediran complained that the present location has been overpopulated, which has resulted in a precarious situation threatening the health condition of the inmates.

Mr Famuwagun Oyediran, the newly posted State Controller of the command, appealed when paying a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Mamman Saba Jibril, in his office in Ilorin.

Oyediran decried the state of the present location, noting that the overpopulation has resulted in a precarious situation threatening the health condition of the inmates.

He, however, acknowledged the support of the present Administration in the State while lauding the state government’s support by providing boreholes at the Oke Kura Custodial Centre, which has significantly relieved them of the burden of water provision.

In his response, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Mamman Saba Jibril, pledged the state government’s support to the service, adding that the government would look into the requests made by the Command Boss to enhance efficient service delivery in the State.

Saba Jibril appreciated the mutual working relationship between the State Government and the State Authority of the State Command of the Correctional Service, assuring that the government would not renege in its support and assistance to ease its operations in the State.
