Deborah Samuel: Prophet Muhammad never killed non Muslims despite insults – Sheikh Gumi condemns murder
A renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has frowned at the gruesome killing of a female student, Deborah Samuel in Sokoto State.
The 200 level female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education was beaten, stoned and burnt alive over alleged blasphemy.
Gumi said that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) did not kill anyone despite insults he received from non-Muslims.
The cleric made this revelation at a religious teaching in his Juma’at mosque in Kaduna.
He reminded all citizens that the country is a secular state, and therefore not governed by any religious law.
“Anyone who kills a non-Muslim, who they have agreed to live peacefully with, will not smell the fragrance of Paradise for 40 years,” he said.
He clarified that Islam does not teach anyone to take laws into their hands and told Islamic religious leaders not to incite their followers.
“If we think by killing Deborah, people who are not of the same faith with us will stop insulting our prophet, then we are in delusion”, he added.
