Death toll in Ilorin ‘food poisoning’ outbreak rises to 4 after another 14-yr-old boy dies

The death toll in the recent alleged food poisoning outbreak in Ilorin has risen to four after another patient, 14-year-old Ridwan Ibrahim, died on Tuesday.

The Informant247 had earlier reported that, under yet-to-be-confirmed circumstances, three members of the same family were found dead after allegedly consuming poisoned amala—a Yoruba staple made from yam flour.

Two of the deceased, Halimat Yusuf and Kamaldeen Yusuf, died on Sunday, while the third, 10-year-old Khalid Abubakar, passed away on Monday morning.

All three have been buried according to Islamic rites.

Ridwan, who died in the early hours of Tuesday, had been admitted to Temitope Hospital in Ilorin on Sunday.

In an exclusive interview with The Informant247 on Tuesday, Abibullahi Imalere Ibrahim, the father of the deceased, said Ridwan had been recovering on Monday, but his situation worsened in the afternoon before he eventually died in the midnight.
