[COVID-19] Day 3: Food prices soar as Kwara residents flood markets

•Commercial motorists, motorcyclists, others operate

•Social distancing ignored at marketplaces

•Kwara police release emergency numbers

Today is one of the weekdays set aside by the Kwara State Government for food and medicine store to operate amid the coronavirus lockdown.

However, THE INFORMANT247 learnt that prices of food items and other materials have risen.

Prices of commodities such as rice, bean, yam, meat tomatoes, pepper, fish, vegetable oil, palm oil and other items witnessed about an high increment, likewise Preventive materials — face-masks, alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

However, there was no social distancing nor any preventing measure in most markets visited by our correspondents.

Also, despite the State Government directives that only food and medicine stores should open, other item sellers operates as even commercial motorist and motorcyclist storm the street.

The government continued to provide palliatives to the vulnerables to cushion effects of lockdown on their families and businesses.

Meanwhile, The Nigeria Police Force, Kwara State Commad has released a list of phone numbers that members of the public can call if they have complaint(s).

The list was posted on twitter by the Kwara Police Public Relation Officer, Dsp Ajayi Okasanmi and sent to THE INFORMANT247.

He tweeted, “You may call any in case of an Emergency 08125275046, 08060072069.”
