Court sentences trader to 6 months imprisonment over robbery, extortion

A 21-year-old trader, Abba Adams, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment over extortion and robbery, in Jos on Tuesday.

The convict was sentenced by a panel of two magistrates, Adam Sadiq and Hyacinth Dolnaan.

He has been given an option of N10,000 fine.

The convict has pleaded guilty to the offence.

The court established that the judgment would serve as lesson to those who who would want to involve themselves in such criminal acts.

Insp Monday Dabit, who’s the prosecution counsel, earlier told the court that the issue was reported on Augt. 26 at the “C” Division Police station by officers during patrol.

The prosecutor revealed that the convict, who is a ”gangstar” who illegal takes from people around the Bauchi ringroad, Dogon Karfe, Rikkos, and Farin gada.

The prosecutor added that the offence, was in contravention of the provisions of sections 297 and 307 of Plateau Penal Code Law.
