Court sentences mechanic to 6 months imprisonment over robbery, possession of dangerous weapon
A 17-year-old mechanic has been sentenced to six months imprisonment over alleged possession of dangerous weapon and robbery.
He was sentenced in Jos on Monday for making use of dangerous weapon to forcefully rob people of their phones.
The convict was sentenced by a panel of two magistrates, Adam Sadiq and Hyacinth Dolnaan
He has been given an option of N20,000 fine.
The convict has pleaded guilty to the offence.
The court established that the judgment would serve as lesson to those who who would want to involve themselves in such criminal acts.
Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, who’s the prosecution counsel, earlier informed the court that the matter was reported on Sept. 23 at the Laranto Police station by Funmilayo Salami and Tosin Adewumi, who resided at Faringada Jos .
The prosecutor revealed that the convict in collaboration with his friends, launched an attack on the complainants with a cutlass, an axe, and iron rod and unlawfully took away their phones.
The prosecutor added that the offence, was in contravention of the provisions of Section 272 and 388 of Plateau Penal Code Law.
