Court sentences mechanic to 1 year imprisonment for stealing iron rods
A 20-year old mechanic, Isaiah Sunday has been sentenced to one year imprisonment over trespass and theft of scrap iron rods.
Sunday was sentenced by an area court in Jos on Wednesday.
David Damulak, the judge, sentenced the convict to one year imprisonment.
He has pleaded guilty to the two-count charge.
The Judge, has however, given the convict an option to pay a fine of N70,000 and directed him to pay a sum of N50,000 to the complainant, or risk spending another 3 months in prison.
The court established that the judgment would serve as lesson to those who who would want to involve themselves in such criminal acts.
Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, the Prosecution Counsel, has earlier informed the court that the matter was brought to aware of the law enforcement agency ( ‘A’ Division Police Station) by the complainant one John Kena, on Sept. 18.
The prosecutor revealed that the convict illegally moved into the complainant’s house, scaled through the fence and stole scrap iron rods worth N200,000
The prosecutor also revealed that the convict was seen with the rods while trying to scale through the fence.
The prosecutor also declared that the offence was in contravention of the provisions of Plateau Penal Code.
