Court sentences man to death for killing stepmother in Kano
The Federal High Court sitting in Kano has on Thursday sentenced one Sagiru Abdullahi, a 29-year-old to death by hanging for stabbing a 55-year-old stepmother, Zainab Dan’Azumi, to death.
The Court convicted him on one count of culpable homicide.
Justice Aisha Mahmoud held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced the convict to death.
The prosecution counsel, Mr Tijjani Ibrahim, had earlier told the court that Abdullahi committed the offence in June 2014 at Kurmawa Quarters, Kano, saying the convict dealt several machete cuts on the victim’s head, leading to her death.
“The victim was rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, where she was confirmed dead by a doctor,” he said.
