Court refuses to admit Okorocha to bail
An Abuja Federal High Court, Friday refused to grant the former Governor of Imo State, Anayo Rochas Okorocha, bail pending the conclusion of a suit he instituted against the Federal Government.
Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo has refused to mandate the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to release him on bail.
The Informant247 had reported that the former Governor of Imo state, Anayo Rochas Okorocha, had asked an Abuja Federal High Court to mandate the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to immediately set him free on bail.
The former governor has on Friday requested the bail on the ground that he’s currently running for the Nigerian presidency under the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and his presidential ambition would be jeopardized if not granted bail.
Justice Ekwo had however in a brief ruling declined the request for his release on bail.
The alleged lawmaker has been scheduled for arraignment on N2.9 billion money laundering charges before the same judge twice but has refused to make himself available.
The EFCC operatives had stormed his Abuja house three days ago, arrested and detained him to effect his appearance in court on Monday, May 30.
