Court jails businessman 6 years over N20m fraud
A businessman, Mohammed Rabiu, was on Tuesday sentenced to six years imprisonment over alleged N20million fraud.
Rabiu was sentenced by Justice Dairus Khobo of the Kaduna High Court.
The business person was charged by the Kaduna Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with fraud.
The judge made the pronouncement after Rabiu had pleaded guilty to the charge and persuaded for the judge for mercy.
The judge did not admit the convict to an option of fine, declared that that sentence should proceed concurrently.
He also directed the convict to refund the sum of N20million to Jamil Hassan, the complainant.
He said said that should the convict was not able to make the payment of the amount, he shall would be made to serve additional one year prison term.
E.K. Garba, who’s the EFCC Counsel, earlier informed the court that sometime around 2020, the convict cajoled Abubakar Sani to give him N20m to bankroll a car business with the promise that he’ll refund in one year.
He added that the defendant received the money, and used it for another personal thing and all efforts to regain the money by the complainant proved abortive.
The prosecutor also said that the offence was in contravention of the provisions of sections 271 and 309 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
