Coup underway as Sudan’s Military arrest Prime Minister other civilian leaders

Military in Sudan has placed most of the members of Sudan’s cabinet and a large number of pro-government party leaders on arrest in an apparent military coup.

The Military, however, dissolved civilian rule and declared a state of emergency in the country.

Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok is among those reported detained under house arrest.

According to the information ministry, those arrested were being taken to “ an unidentified location”.

The ministry stated that Mr. Hamdok was arrested for not supporting a coup and urging people to continue with peaceful protests to defend the revolution.

General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan who has been chairing Sudan’s ruling body General later announced in a televised address that the infighting between politicians, ambition, and incitement to violence had forced him to act to protect the safety of the nation and to “rectify the revolution’s course”

He thereby announced the dissolution of the transitional government and the sovereign council and declared a nationwide state of emergency.
