Contractors to begin rehabilitation work on Offa, Lafiagi Stadia

Kwara State government have announced that contractors have been mobilised to begin the long-awaited rehabilitation works at the Offa and Lafiagi Stadia.

The decision is one of the resolutions of the Kwara State Executive Council meeting on Thursday, with the approval of major rehabilitation works at Offa and Lafiagi Stadia being one of top agenda.

In a statement released on Thursday, September 25, 2025, by the Commissioner for Communications of Kwara State, Bolanle Olukoju, said contractors will soon begin work on the projects.

The two sporting arenas, which had been abandoned for several years, will now undergo comprehensive upgrades following the award of contracts and mobilisation of contractors to site.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who presided over the council meeting on Thursday, said the move underscores his administration’s commitment to youth development, talent discovery, and equitable access to world-class sporting facilities across Kwara.

“These stadia are more than just sports grounds. They are rallying points for community pride, youth empowerment, and grassroots talent promotion,” the governor said.

According to the government, the rehabilitation works will bring the facilities up to modern standards, making them fit for local, national, and even international sporting activities.

The projects come alongside fresh approvals for key infrastructure across the state, including the Ojoku–Ilemona Bye-Pass, Alabe–Oreke Road, and a new Senate Building for the Kwara State University of Education.

Until now, Kwara has only one multi-sporting facility, which is the George Innih Stadium Complex in Ilorin. The facility was last renovated in 2011. Currently, the stadium is being ‘retouched’ as part of the face-lifting intervention by the government.

The rehabilitation of the Offa and Lafiagi Stadia will not only boost sporting activities in the areas but will also enhance socio-economic activities.

The Informant247 recalls that Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in March 2024 visited the Olofa Stadium in Offa, where he announced plans for the reconstruction of the facility.

Recognizing the stadium’s 40-year-old design, the Governor directed the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to conduct a comprehensive re-appraisal and formulate recommendations for its revitalization during his visit.

The Governor during the visit also noted that the same attention will be given to the Lafiagi Stadium.
