Chinese operatives storm Kwara forest to free kidnapped expatriates

Operatives from the People’s Republic of China have reportedly stormed Oreke-Oke in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State following the abduction of a Chinese national at a mining site.

During the assault, the kidnappers killed two police officers before taking away two workers, including the Chinese expatriate. The Kwara State Police Command later identified the fallen officers as ASP Haruna Watsai and Inspector Tukur Ogah, both affiliated with the 45 Police Mobile Force Unit in Abuja.

The brazen attack sent shockwaves through the typically quiet community and raised renewed concerns about the escalating insecurity in the area. Witnesses described the attackers as heavily armed and numerous, launching their assault around 6:30 pm.

Security analyst Zagazola indicated that the abductors are demanding a ransom of N1 billion for the release of the Chinese national and the Nigerian worker. A senior police officer, who participated in the initial response but preferred to remain anonymous, stated, “A delegation of Chinese operatives arrived in Kwara shortly after the incident.”

The officer detailed, “The operatives first landed in Abuja, where they were received and escorted by a Divisional Crime Officer to the Kwara State Police Command. Upon arrival, they insisted on visiting the crime scene despite the late hour. Inside the Oreke forest, they examined the area, collected samples, and maintained strict observation.”

He added, “By the time we returned to Ilorin that night, it was already past midnight. The operatives have since left for China but promised to return soon. We are still expecting them back while our own search and rescue operations continue.”

Calls and text messages to the police command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi SP, seeking an official response were not returned by the time of this report.

However, Adetoun had earlier confirmed that the victims are Mr. Sam Xie Wie, a Chinese investor, and Mr. David Adenaiye, a Nigerian worker from Kogi State. She added that the whereabouts of the victims are still unknown as security agencies work to secure their release.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, condemned the attack, calling it cowardly and callous. He assured the public that tactical and intelligence-led operations are underway to rescue the abductees and bring their captors to justice.
