Car thief escapes being burnt in Jigawa

Adamu Ali, a 30-year-old man suspected to have stolen motor vehicle, has narrowly escaped being killed by some angry youths in the Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

A resident informed newsmen that the incident occurred, Monday around 6:00 pm in Yalwawa quarters, Dutse metropolis.

He revealed that the incident occurred when the owner of a car sighted someone attempting to steal the car from the parking space right before his home.

He said that as a result, the car’s owner alarmed the people and was physically assaulted before the police reached the affected areas and whisked him away.

The Police spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the development in a statement made available to newsmen.

He said, “the incident occurred on Monday, after one Ibrahim Saleh of Plot 232 Yalwawa quarters, Dutse reported that at about 1730hrs, he parked his motor vehicle Honda Civic 98 model, ash in color, with registration number GML 112 JA, in front of his house, but when he came out, he saw a person removing the car from where he parked it earlier.

“The owner of the vehicle immediately alerted the police on patrol and good Samaritans, where the thief was pursued; as a result he abandoned the car and ran into a farmland before he was arrested and taken to the police station for interrogation.”

Shiisu revealed that a master key and three (3) different plate numbers of vehicles were regained from him.

He added that during the course of the police investigation, the suspect, who is a resident of Potiskum, Yobe State, admitted to have committed the crime of stealing the motor vehicles in the Dutse metropolis.

He said that the suspect also confessed that he recently stole a motor vehicle, which belongs to Salmanu Adamu Rishi residing at Takur Site Dutse, Jigawa State and ran away with it to Kano State.

The mouthpiece of the Police said the police later regained the vehicle and moved it to the office for intense investigation.

He revealed that the suspect would be taken to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
