‘Calm, Articulate And Brilliant’, Ayu lists attributes considered before choosing Okowa as Atiku’s running mate

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu has said the “calm, articulate and brilliant” attributes of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State were put into consideration before choosing him as the running mate to the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Ayu said the party national leadership also decided to “reward” the state.

Ayu made this remark, Wednesday while commissioning the Ogheye Floating Market in the Warri North Local Government Area of the state.

He said: “The destruction that the APC government has done in this country has taken us back 50 years. And we need to recover and rebuild our country; we can’t do it without your support.

“When we recognised as a party, the sterling contributions of Governor Okowa – his character as a calm, articulate and brilliant young man, we, the leadership of the party decided that Delta State has to be rewarded because Delta State has produced several outstanding governors and this one (Okowa), in particular, we felt should be promoted upstairs and therefore, we selected him with the approval of our presidential candidate as the next vice president of Nigeria.”

The Informant247 recalls that there’s been crisis in the Ayu-led party ever since the conclusion of the party’s presidential primary election which took place last year.

The Governor of Rivers State, and four other governors of the party have since called for the resignation of the chairman over what they described as “justice and equity” within the party.

The G5 said the party cannot have a northerner as a presidential candidate and as a national chairman at a time.

The Informant247 earlier reported that the aggrieved governors have vowed to announce their presidential candidate in January.
