CAF Confederation Cup:Kwara United beat AS Douanes of Niger Republic

It was a good start for Kwara United in their CAF Confederation Cup engagement as they defeated AS Douanes of Niger Republic 3-0 in the first leg of the preliminary round of the game.

The Harmony boys were the best side in the game played in the presence of their enthusiastic fans who had stormed the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos to cheer the team to victory.

A dominated performance from the blast of the whistle to the end of the game, the team showed class in the encounter which was witnessed by the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and his wife.

Coach Azeez Muhammed led side would eventually got a deserved opener on the heels of their early minutes rush when Paul Samson hits the first goal in the 5th minutes from a rebounds.

Still roaring higher in the game, Wasiu Jimoh doubled the lead for the home side in the 16th minutes as he scored a penalty to push his the Ilorin-based side to a safe side of the game.

Just some five minutes in to the end of the first half, Issa Gata found Wasiu Jimoh in another perfect position and the latter wasted no time to get his brace and make it third for the team.

The Nigeriens failed to pick up their pieces in the second half as the Harmony Boys went on to defend their advantage whilst also loosing some goal chances under an electrifying atmosphere charged up by their teeming fans.

Meanwhile, Adeyinka Adewale was on hand in the 76th minutes to deny effort from Shamsu Alhassane of Douanes from reducing the deficit for the visitors.

With the victory, Kwara United go in to the second leg of the game billed for Sunday 18th, September in Niger Republic with an advantage they will be keen to guard as they eye the second round game against RS Berkane.
