Breaking: Kwara govt takes over prosecution of AbdulRahman, 4 others in Hafsoh’s murder case

defendant to be arraigned at State High Court

The Kwara State Ministry of Justice, on Thursday, announced its intention to take over the case of Abdulrahman Bello, and four others who allegedly murdered and dismembered a final-year student of the State College of Education, Yetunde Lawal Hafsoh.

The Ministry’s legal representative, Barrister Issa Zakare, informed the court that legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has been issued and that the defendant (Bello) has a case to answer.

He further stated that Bello would be properly arraigned at the High Court.

The counsel for the family of the deceased, Barrister Hussein Folorunsho, did not object to the Ministry’s application but pleaded for justice for the murdered woman and her family.

Magistrate Sanusi Muhammad, who presided over the matter, adjourned the case until the 20th of this month. He also ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Okekura Custodial Centre.

Meanwhile, as the defendant was leaving the court, he pleaded for the release of those who were arraigned with him, claiming they did not commit any offense as alleged. He added that he was solely responsible for killing and dismembering the deceased.

After the court session, Barrister Folorunsho advocated for the signing of death warrants for those convicted of capital offenses. He stated that anyone convicted by law should face the appropriate punishment.

He also called on governors across the country to always act in accordance with the law by issuing death sentences for those who deserve it, claiming that such actions would bring relief to the public and concerned parties.
