BREAKING: Kwara Fire Service diverts traffic after gas, fuel-laden vehicles crash in Ilorin

…warns motorists, pedestrians against approaching accident scene

The Kwara State Fire Service has advised motorists to avoid Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Ilorin, following a road traffic accident involving two vehicles, one carrying multiple 50kg cooking gas cylinders and another reportedly leaking petroleum.

The Fire Service, in a safety advisory issued on Wednesday, specifically directed motorists coming from Baboko, Surulere, Adewole and adjoining areas to use alternative routes when accessing Ibrahim Taiwo Road, particularly around the Stadium Complex Gate and the frontage of Bekki & Sons Ltd.

The agency said the combination of cooking gas cylinders and leaking petroleum created a potential fire and explosion risk to motorists, pedestrians and other road users.

Personnel of the Kwara State Fire Service have been deployed to the scene to contain the situation and prevent further danger.

Motorists using the opposite side of the road were also advised to exercise extreme caution, reduce their speed and comply with instructions from emergency personnel at the scene.

The Fire Service urged members of the public, passersby and onlookers to keep away from the accident scene, warning that unnecessary gatherings could obstruct emergency operations and expose people to avoidable risks.

The agency said the traffic restriction would remain in place until the area is confirmed safe for normal vehicular movement.

It urged members of the public to cooperate with emergency personnel and await further updates on the situation.
