Breaking: Four teams relegate to lower league as curtain falls on NPFL 2021/2022 season
Rivers United have been crowned the Champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) of the 2021/2022 season.
The Pride of Rivers, having amassed a total number of 77 points from 38 games were crowned the winner of the league on Sunday.
Plateau United, as the second placed team with 67 points will be joining the winner of the league for CAF Champions league campaign later in the year.
Having finished in the third position with 62 points, Remo Stars will be joined by the winner of the Federation Cup to compete in the CAF confederation Cup.
Meanwhile, MFM FC of Lagos, Kano Pillars FC, Katsina United and Heartland FC of Owerri have all been relegated to the second tier league; Nigeria National League (NNL) as the season ends on Sunday.
Four new teams from the NNL will gain promotion to the Elite league to complete the roll call of 20 teams expected to feature in the upcoming season.
NPFL is being maanaged by the League Management Company(LMC) and is the highest football league in Nigeria
