BREAKING: 3 soldiers killed as terrorists attack military base in Kwara
At least three soldiers have been killed following a pre-dawn attack on a military base in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, in an incident first reported by Premium Times.
The attack, believed to have been carried out by fighters linked to Ansaru, occurred around 3 a.m. in Kemanji, a village near the fringes of Kainji National Park, an area long suspected to serve as a hideout for insurgent groups.
According to local sources and security insiders, the attackers stormed the military camp and opened fire on personnel, killing three soldiers and injuring four others, including a member of a local vigilante group.
A forest guard, who works alongside military operatives and spoke on condition of anonymity, described the incident as swift and coordinated.
“The terrorists came directly to the military camp and opened fire,” he said. “They killed three soldiers and injured four people—three soldiers and a vigilante.”
In addition to the casualties, the attackers reportedly made away with military assets, including eight operational motorcycles and a gun truck.
However, another source, a vigilante member in the community, claimed that troops were able to repel parts of the assault, killing several of the attackers during the exchange of gunfire.
While multiple armed groups are known to operate in the area, sources familiar with the situation attributed the attack specifically to Ansaru, which has previously clashed with security forces in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the military nor the police authorities in Kwara State have issued an official statement regarding the incident.
