Borno flood: NPFL postpones El-Kanemi, Kwara United clash

BY Aishat Ibrahim

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has placed the Match Day 2 fixture between El-Kanemi Warriors and Kwara United on hold until further notice.

According to the league organisers, this decision was due to the flood that has devastated Borno State and its environs.

“The match scheduled for this Sunday, September 15, has been postponed due to the flood tragedy in Borno State,” they said in a statement.

Recall that the recent floods in Maiduguri, Borno State, have displaced thousands and affected schools and businesses.

According to reports, the collapse of Alau Dam led to the worst flooding in 30 years in the state.

The 2-1 defeat

The Harmony Boys were beaten by their visitors, Niger Tornadoes, in the first match of the season.

The visitors set out to secure a podium finish for the season when Godstime Joseph put Tornadoes ahead in the 32nd minute.

Sabiu Ibrahim extended the lead with a composed finish in the 69th minute of the encounter.

Sadeeq Yusuf pulled one back for the hosts five minutes before the end, scoring Harmony’s first goal of the season.

Kwara United will take on El-Kanemi Warriors in their next league game.
