Bola Ahmed Tinubu ICC generates ₦700m in three weeks – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that the newly refurbished Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja has generated an astonishing ₦700 million within just three weeks of reopening.
The refurbishment of the facility, which cost ₦39 billion, stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to revitalizing key infrastructures.
During a Thanksgiving service held for the completion of various projects by the FCT administration, Wike emphasized the previous mismanagement of the centre, stating, “Before the advent of the President Bola Tinubu administration, the centre was poorly managed… the man who was running it was paying the government ₦50 million a year.”
He expressed pride in the significant revenue generated since the revamp: “But in the three weeks that we just renovated it, we have made over ₦700 million.”
Wike criticized past leaders for their failures in governance and questioned their credibility in claiming they want to rescue the nation, urging: “People had the opportunity to be in government… If I say, ‘Look, we want to rescue Nigeria,’ what you should ask me is, ‘When you had the opportunity, what happened?’”
Wike attributed the surge in project development in the FCT to Tinubu’s decision to withdraw from the Treasury Single Account, which previously hindered access to funds. “Today, we can see projects because we are no longer operating under the Single Treasury Account,” he stated, highlighting the newfound financial independence.
Despite backlash from opposition critics over the costs involved in the refurbishment, Wike stood firm in defense of the project, declaring, “Nobody who loves this country would criticise the International Conference Centre… We have taste, we want the best for the country.”
