The chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has described 8 years tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari as a failure, saying Buhari did not live up to the expectations of Nigerians in the last eight years.
George, while addressing the newsmen in Lagos on Saturday, said that history will judge Buhari’s government because it failed to impact Nigerians positively.
The PDP chieftain lamented that Buhari failed to ensure the security of Nigerians, berating him for failing to deliver on his electoral promises of fighting corruption among other things.
According to George: “My personal assessment is that he failed, not completely in every sector, but if you do an examination and say you must have a minimum of 33%, then you can go to the next class, but they did not attain that 33%.
“I can give them maybe about 5%, even the 5% requires a lot of retrospection.
“So it is very very disheartening and heartbreaking that he failed in his number one job, which is to guarantee security of lives and property.
“So let’s put those promises now into his departure because that’s what will be written on the pages of history. Whatever a leader does during his time, it is on the pages of history.”
May 29: Buhari failed woefully as a president — Ortom
Samuel Ortom, the Benue State Governor has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration as the worst in the history of Nigeria, saying the president “must be told that he failed woefully and Nigerians are feeling the impact of that failure because we are all suffering.”
Ortom, while speaking at the commissioning of the headquarters of the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, BSCVGs, in Makurdi, lamented that the president plunged the country into unimaginable poverty and insecurity, taking Nigeria from the top to the bottom and making life miserable for them, unlike what used to flourish under his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan.
Ortom said, “I served under the then President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration and we all saw how Nigeria flourished under that administration. We all knew what the prices of goods and services were at the time.
“We also know what our exchange rate was at the time and what it is today. I want Nigerians to do a simple comparison and you will realise how bad it has been under this government and how Nigeria has been taken several years backwards by the Buhari government.
“The fact is that never in the history of Nigeria did we experience this kind of bad governance in the country.
“Corruption is so endemic in this government, yet people who steal chicken are thrown into prison, but people in government who are busy stealing the wealth of the people are walking free.
“The President recently apologised to Nigerians; we accept the apology but he must be told that he failed woefully and Nigerians are feeling the impact of that failure because we are all suffering.”
The governor also lamented the refusal of the president to put an end to Fulani herdsmen’s attack and designate declared them as terrorists for being responsible for the killings in the country.
“The President told us he is retiring to tend to his cattle, is it because he is returning to be a herder that he failed to deal decisively with herdsmen? That was unfair to Nigerians,” he added.
