Beware of fake N1000 notes in circulation – NOA warns Kwara residents
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Kwara has issued a warning to the public about counterfeit N1000 notes that are currently circulating in the state.
In a statement made in Ilorin, the State Director of NOA, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Dare, emphasized the importance of vigilance among residents and business owners.
“There are confirmed intelligence reports of syndicates flooding the area with counterfeit currency with batch numbers 364232 and 898248,” he stated.
Dare highlighted key features that can help identify the counterfeit notes, including blurred portraits, irregular security features, and missing watermarks.
He urged the public to exercise caution, especially when handling large sums of money. “The syndicates behind this crime exploit peak commercial hours in major local markets to carry out transactions with counterfeit notes,” he added.
Targeting unsuspecting POS operators and merchants, these criminals aim to defraud them of their hard-earned money.
Dare reassured the public that the NOA Kwara Directorate is dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of fake currency and the vital importance of verifying banknotes’ authenticity.
Describing the crime as unpatriotic and detrimental to the Nigerian economy, he stated that NOA is collaborating with security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice. Dare encouraged residents to report any suspicious transactions or individuals to the authorities.
“Together, we can build a safer and more secure financial environment for all residents of Kwara. By working together, the NOA and the public can prevent the circulation of fake currency and protect the financial interests of Kwara residents,” he concluded.
