Benue State Government has allocated 127 hectares of land to Family Homes Funds, an agency of the Federal Government for the purpose of building low-income houses for civil servants in the state.
The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom stated this on Thursday, when he received the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Family Homes Funds, Mr. Femi Adewole, in his Abuja residence.
He commended the Federal Government for the initiative, saying he was happy that Benue State is considered to be part of the scheme.
Ortom assured that the state government will hasten payment of compensation for the landowners to enable the commencement of construction of the housing units.
Speaking earlier, Mr. Adewole had implored state governors to take direct ownership of the project, adding that the idea was to make housing affordable to all Nigerians particularly the low-income earners.
He however, disclosed that each housing unit costs N2 million and beneficiaries have up to 15 years to pay back the loan with a monthly deduction of N11,000 only.
