Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, has urged teachers in public schools to be more committed to their duties, to improve students’ performance.
Ezewu, according to a statement in Asaba on Saturday, made the call when he paid a visit to some secondary schools in the state earlier in the week.
She said the visit was to assess the level of commitment of teachers and students towards resumption.
The commissioner expressed satisfaction on the level of compliance of students and teachers since the resumption of schools.
Ezewu urged the students to be focused and engaged in their studies rather than waste time playing.
The commissioner charged the teachers to put the interest of the children first.
“Students should inculcate reading culture at all times and shun acts capable of jeopardising their future.
“Okowa’s administration has transformed the education sector to the benefit of teachers and students,” she said.
The commissioner urged principals and teachers to always abstain from things that could paint the sector in negative light, and adhere strictly to the tenets of the profession.
Ezewu, who described the turnout of the students and teachers as impressive, asked teachers who were not in school during the inspection to report to her office. (NAN)
