Bauchi govt disburses N89.3m bursary to 5,033 indigent students

Bauchi State Government has disbursed N89.3 million scholarship allowances to 5,033 indigent students studying in various tertiary institutions of learning across the country.

Mr Mohammed Abubakar, Chairman, National Union of Bauchi State Students, stated this at a news conference on Thursday in Bauchi.

Abubakar said the amount covered payment of allowances to students under batch ‘A’ of the exercise, adding that payment for the batches (B and C) would soon commenced.

He said that students of the polytechnics and Colleges of Education received N12,000 as against N7,000 sequel to the upward review of the bursary allowances.

The Chairman said that 1,000 medical students studying medicine, pharmacy, radiography, physiology, nursing, and dental technicians had been bonded by the state government.

Abubakar lauded the state government for settling N800 million outstanding NECO and SSCE examination fees.

“Gov. Bala Mohammed’s administration has since released N3 billion counter part fund for 2020/2021 SUBEB/UBEC intervention projects in which 353 blocks of classrooms constructed.

“About 14 VIP toilets and 39 hand pumps are provided in primary and junior secondary schools in the state,” he said. (NAN)
