The Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello has condemned the killing of a Catholic priest at Kaffin Koro, Paikoro Local Government Area of the state.
The Informant247 earlier reported that Rev Father Isaac Achi, the Priest of St. Peters and Paul Catholic Church in Kafin-koro in Paikoro local government area of Niger, was burnt to death in the early hours of Sunday.
The Chief Press Secretary, Mary Noël-Berje, while reacting to the gruesome killing of the cleric, in a statement released on Sunday, said the incident was ungodly and inhumane.
The Governor said invasion of a religious centre to kill someone was the worst stage of terrorists attacks.
The Governor however ordered the full scaled manhunt to arrest the killers of the religious leader, saying drastic steps need be taken to bring an end to the ongoing criminality.
He also sympathized with Christian faithfuls, especially the Catholic Church, over the incident.
The Governor wished the injured Rev. Father who shot at by the gunmen while he’s running for his own life, quick recovery.
The statement reads, “This is a sad moment, for a priest to be killed in such a manner means that we are not all safe, these terrorists have lost it, and drastic action is needed to end this ongoing carnage.
“The governor urged the security agencies to continue to evolve new strategies that would end the atrocious and barbaric acts, adding that his government will not rest on its oars to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to book.
“He also commiserated with the Christian community, especially the Catholic Church, over the ugly incident, and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured Rev. Father, who was also shot at by the bandits while trying to escape.
“The governor also enjoined the people to remain calm as the government would continue to do its best to secure the lives and livelihoods of the people.”
