Bandits gun down groom, kidnap pregnant bride in Kaduna
Bandits have gunned down a new groom and kidnapped his pregnant wife in Jere town, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The bandits also whisked away four members of the family of a former commissioner of Poverty Alleviation in Kaduna State, Abdulrahman Ibrahim Jere.
It was gathered that over 50 bandits stormed Jere, a community along the Abuja-Kaduna highway, on motorcycles.
They were said to have raided one house after the other.
Reports from residents said it seemed the home of a former Commissioner, Abdulrahman Ibrahim Jere who was out of town at the time, was their main target.
They kidnapped his wife, a baby girl, his younger sister and his wife’s sister.
A resident said the bandits also launched attack on the home of a new couple and made attempt to kidnap the bride but the groom had protested.
He said the groom was shot dead while dragging his bride with the invaders.
“We made several calls to the various security agencies on ground and they all ignored us. This is the second major attack on our community in the last three months and we feel that the security agents stationed here are of no use to us,” Adamu Jere, said angrily.
Ibrahim Salisu, another resident, said he was not pleased with the reactions of the security agents in Jere, saying that their mode of operations had created the impression that they “are either colluding with the bandits or people who do not care about the security of the people.”
He said for hours that the bandits had operated in the affected area, the security agents could not challenge the status quo.
The spokesperson of the police in the state, ASP Mohammed Jalige, did not react to inquiries about the incident as at the press time.
