Awoniyi bags assist as Nottingham Forest beat Sunderland 5-0 to boost EPL survival
Nigerian international, Taiwo Awoniyi came off the bench again to help Nottingham Forest thrash home team Sunderland 5-0 in their EPL game on friday night
Awoniyi, clearly showing sharp awareness inside the box, opted to square the ball rather than shoot, allowing Elliot Anderson to slide home from close range and complete the scoring at 5-0.
Earlier Trai Hume deflected into his own net for an unfortunate own goal, before Chris Wood doubled the lead for the visitors. Morgan Gibbs-White hit the third and Igor Jesus scored the fourth before the interval.
A dominant first-half performance effectively saw Forest scoring four times in a breathtaking 20-minute spell.
The win extends Forest’s unbeaten run, ensures they go eight points clear and provides a significant boost in their battle to avoid relegation.
Forest now have 39 points from 34 matches, eight points clear of Tottenham, who are the third team in the drop zone.
Wolves and Burnley have already been relegated from the English top flight.
