Atiku, Tinubu, Obi can’t solve Nigeria’s problem – Mike Ozekhome, SAN

Mike Ozekhome, a Nigerian senior lawyer, has revealed that none of presidential candidates for the forthcoming 2023 elections can solve Nigeria’s problems.

According to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, and others would only attempt to, but they would not be able to solve the country’s challenges.

The legal luminary has insisted that the presidential flagbearer “cannot solve the problem of insecurity, poor economy, poverty, hunger and hopelessness that has enveloped the country.”

He made this revelation while presenting his speech at the 2022 Independence Day Anniversary Lecture which was organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Ogun State chapter, in Abeokuta, the capital of the state.

The theme under discussion was: ‘Nigeria In Search For An Enduring Political Structure; Imperative Of Structural Reforms‘.

Ozekhome suggested restructuring and change of the system of government as the only solutions to put an end to the challenges facing the country.

He added that “virtually everything is wrong with our country: insecurity, collapsed infrastructure, failure of the public school system, an economy in shambles. The list is endless.”

Ozekhome also said “embracing our discarded Prime Minister system of government or dismantling and recoupling several of the institutions that help or hinder us.”

The lawyer has called for “a serious re-examination of the 36 state structure as federating units vis-à-vis their fiscal/economic viability or their consolidation into six or more regions with economies of scale and higher investment rates.”

He explained that the nation had moved far away from the path of its founding fathers, stressing that if political actors in power do not want a change, “the nation is likely to crumble.”

The Senior lawyer also agitated for the amendment of the 1999 constitution.
