The Association of Kwara State Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) is in mourning following the tragic death of 27-year-old media personality Yusuf Mubarak, widely known as ‘Authority.’
Mubarak’s disappearance sent shockwaves through the community after he was reported missing on a fateful Wednesday evening.
This unsettling incident occurred shortly after his visit to detained members of ASKOMP at the Kwara State Police Command in Ilorin. Tragically, his lifeless body was later discovered at a private morgue on a somber Saturday.
In a heartfelt statement signed by ASKOMP’s Chairman, Salihu Shola Taofeek, the association expressed profound sadness over the untimely passing of Mubarak, describing him as a bright and promising young man.
“As a professional association, we are deeply saddened by the untimely death of Mubarak Yusuf ‘Authority.’ He was not only an intelligent individual but also a cherished friend, brother, and a promising young talent. His tragic demise occurred shortly after his visit to the Kwara State Police Headquarters in Ilorin, where he stood in solidarity with two of our members who have been in custody since Tuesday, 12th September, 2023,” the statement read.
Mubarak was well-known for his creative writing skills and unwavering commitment to the values of truth, transparency, and press freedom.
ASKOMP extended heartfelt condolences to Mubarak’s grieving family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult period.
The association emphasized that this tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the daily dangers faced by individuals in the community due to ongoing issues like cult clashes, ritual killings, and other criminal activities.
They also expressed disappointment in the security formations in the state, which they feel have been ineffective in addressing these concerns.
ASKOMP acknowledged the directive from Kwara State Governor for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mubarak’s death.
They joined the call for all security agencies to spare no effort in ensuring that those responsible for this heinous act face justice in a transparent and uncompromising manner.
The loss of Mubarak has left a void in the media community, and ASKOMP remains committed to seeking justice for their fallen colleague while continuing their mission to uphold the values of journalism and press freedom.
