Armed robbers kill two residents, loot valuables in Bayelsa community
Unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have shot dead a bus driver, Mr. Center Silas, in his apartment, during a raid by the criminals at Ekeki area of Yenagoa in Bayelsa State.
It was gathered that the robbery incident which took the life of the bus driver and a father of three happened at about 1am Wednesday morning.
The armed robbers reportedly carted away valuables from victims including the home of the deceased woman in Ofoni Williams Street.
Narrating his ordeal, a close neighbour, who does not want his name mentioned said, “When I heard a bang, I didn’t know it was a gunshot, then I heard noise thereafter, people calling for help, I went outside, and saw some persons still shouting, immediately I was flashed with a torch and three of them led me back to my apartment.
“Then I realised I was in for it, they told me and my wife to bring out monies and other belongings, so I begged him that we don’t have any valuable thing in our house, they kept on harassing us and threatened to kill us but I still told them I have nothing. They finally quickly used flash to check the room, picked the only N1000 on the television stand and left us for another apartment, so I locked my apartment with fear till we noticed they were gone.”
Another source, Mr. Lucky said the whole neighbourhood was helpless and in fear because they kept hearing gunshots at that midnight so they couldn’t sleep.
“These guys operate freely in this area. When they come like this in their numbers, they will raid homes, maim, rape, steal and go free and the security agencies won’t do anything. It was minimal when we had vigilante members guarding the streets but they left because some persons refused to pay their dues, but we are now left with the option of facing our fears all by ourselves,” he said.
The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Asinim Butswat confirmed the incident, saying that investigation is ongoing.
