Armed robbers attack supermarket in Geri-Alimi, kill policeman

A gang of armed robbers on Tuesday attacked a branch of Kasbushat supermarket in Geri-Alimi, Ilorin, killing a police Inspector identified as Isiaka Taofeek, in the process.

The robbery operation was said to have targeted an Automated Teller Machine point at the popular supermarket.

According to an eyewitness, the hoodlums stormed the premises during the midnight, and started operation immediately after having tied down the supermarket’s security personnel.

The policemen from Surulere “B” division were said to have arrived at the scene of the operation and engaged the robbers in a gun duel.

The eyewitness narrated, “The unfortunate incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday and stray bullets from the hoodlums killed a policeman and injured two others who are now recieving treatments from an undisclosed hospital.”

The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Dsp Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the incident.

He said, “It is true, we lost one of our men in the incident, but we have already started a full scale investigation on it.”
