MAKURDI, Nigeria (The Informant247) – An armed gang killed at least 3 people in an attack on a village in central Nigerian state of Benue, locals and police said on Tuesday.
Locals told newsmen that the incident, which occurred on Sunday night at Tse Ngban village Guma local government area, caused the villagers to desert their homes.
One of the locals, Abel said, “A woman was killed on the spot, while the two others died shortly after the attack from the injuries inflicted on them by the armed assailants.”
He said the gang had, the previous day, blocked the Daudu-Lafia highway near the NYSC farm at Uda Yagba during which they injured passersby.
State police spokesperson Catherine Anene, confirmed that “three people were killed in an attack at Guma”.
“The corpses have been removed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) while an investigation is ongoing,” Anene added.
Hundreds of people have been killed in central Nigeria since last year, in attacks the government attributes to bandits – a loose term for gangs of outlaws carrying out robberies and kidnappings. Also, farmer-herder crises had killed and displaced thousands in the region.
