Appolonia Anaele appointed as first female spokesperson for Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army has made a historic appointment with Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anaele being designated as the acting Director of the Department of Army Public Relations.

She will officially assume her role from Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

This groundbreaking appointment marks a significant milestone as Anaele becomes the first female senior military officer to serve as the spokesperson for the ground troops.

Since the establishment of the Nigerian Army over fifty years ago, no female officer has held this position within the public relations department, highlighting the importance of this achievement in promoting gender inclusivity in the military.
