Applicant appears in Abuja court for allegedly causing woman to miscarry
An applicant, Okechukwu Eze, on Wednesday appeared in an Abuja court over alleged assault on woman which has caused her to miscarry.
37 year old Eze whose address of residence was not disclosed was charged by the police, with assault and criminal force, which led to her miscarriage.
Mr Olanrewaju Osho, who’s the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that the defendant was maliciously assaulted the complainant by beating her on the stomach to stop the driver from picking her.
Osho revealed that the complainant, Anakputa Anthonia, who resides at Gogo near civil defence quarters, Kubwa made an allegation that the incidence cost her pregnancy.
He said the offence, was in contravention of the provisions of sections 365 of the Penal Code.
When the matter was read to the defendant,
he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Mr Hassan Mohammed, who presided on the matter admitted the defendant to a bail in the sum of N100, 000 plus a reasonable surety who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
Mohammed directed that the address of the surety must be subjected to the verification of the court and the police officers, a national means of identification and one passport must be in the custody of the court.
The Judge directed that the defendant must write a letter of undertaking not to intimidate the complainant’s peace.
He also directed the defendant to write a letter of undertaking to maintain peace and order.
Mohammed, has therefore, adjourned the matter until November 9 for further hearing.
