APC suspends ex-Ogun Gov Gbenga Daniel, ally for alleged anti-party activities
In a decisive move, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has suspended former governor and current senator for Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, along with his associate, Kunle Folarin. The suspension is rooted in allegations of anti-party misconduct.
Nuberu Olufemi, the Director of Publicity for the state chapter, announced the suspension in a statement issued to the press. The decision was made during a State Working Committee meeting presided over by state chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi.
The suspensions followed the completion of investigations by disciplinary committees from both Ward 4 and Ward 6 in Sagamu Local Government Area, which were tasked with examining the allegations against Daniel and Folarin.
The statement highlighted, “Ward 4, Sagamu Local Government set up a disciplinary committee on the alleged misconduct bordering on anti-party activities committed by Senator Gbenga Daniel.”
Both Daniel and Folarin reportedly did not respond to multiple invitations to appear before the committees to defend themselves or present evidence.
The committees proceeded in their absence, gathering testimonies and considering documentary evidence before making their decisions.
Furthermore, the investigation revealed claims that the suspended members had been exerting pressure on party members to deter cooperation with the committees.
In light of these issues, the committees concluded that suspending the two was necessary to uphold the integrity of the disciplinary process.
The suspensions have been approved by the State Working Committee, demonstrating the APC’s commitment to maintaining party discipline and adhering to its constitution.
