Annual Oke Onigbin get-together postponed over security concerns in Kwara
The Cornelius Adebayo family, in conjunction with the Committee on the Annual Oke Onigbin Get-Together, has announced the postponement of the event earlier scheduled to hold in the first week of January 2026.
The decision, according to the organisers, was taken after careful consideration of prevailing security challenges in parts of Kwara State, as well as recent developments that have deeply affected the collective mood of the people.

Beyond the emotional aftermath of the burial of the revered leader and mentor, Chief Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo, in October 2025, the organisers noted that persistent insecurity in Kwara South and Kwara North has resulted in the killing and abduction of several notable citizens, including traditional rulers, farmers, and other innocent residents.
“These tragic incidents have created a sombre atmosphere across the state and call for sensitivity, restraint, and collective reflection,” the statement said.
The family and organising committee stressed that the postponement was a mark of solidarity with families who have lost loved ones or are still anxiously awaiting the safe return of those abducted. They added that this period should be used to reflect, review priorities, and show compassion to affected communities.
While offering prayers for the repose of those killed and the safe release of abducted persons, the organisers reaffirmed their support for the people of affected areas as they continue their lawful activities amid ongoing challenges.
The statement also called on Kwarans to remain united in supporting the Federal Government, the Kwara State Government, and security agencies in their efforts to restore peace and stability across the state. It further reaffirmed support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing ongoing efforts in tackling insecurity and achievements in agriculture, infrastructure, the economy, and technology.
Reiterating their progressive ideals, the organisers said they remain committed to the values of progressivism as championed by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and exemplified by Chief Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo.
They expressed hope that security conditions would improve significantly, allowing the progressive family to reconvene by Easter, when circumstances are expected to be more conducive for meaningful engagement.
